Seacoast Marine Electronics (SME) is a highly respected service provider of commercial marine electronics, VSAT communications, and IT support to the marine industry in Canada. SME has offices in Halifax (NS), Vancouver (BC), and Hamilton (ON) that serve Deep-sea and Great Lakes vessels, as well as offshore oil and gas platforms. The Hamilton office, located in Ontario, is growing and has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Field Service Technician to work on commercial vessels throughout the Great Lakes.
SME provides support to the marine industry on a 24/7 basis. This position is required to work outside of core business hours, as customer needs dictate. The Marine Electronic Technician can be on the road for several days at a time and enjoys working alone. A valid drivers license is required.
Responsibilities:
- Install, maintain and repair commercial marine electronics equipment. This includes but is not limited to: Radars, VHF and GMDSS Radio Equipment, AIS, Inmarsat and VSAT Satellite equipment, IT/Networking, Gyro compasses, Electronic Charts, Echosounder, Engine automation system, Weather observation IT anemometers and (S)VDR/VDR.
- Inspection of GMDSS radio equipment
- Inspection of (S)VDR equipment
- Write accurate and detailed service reports
- Self motivated and able to organize and prioritize workloads with minimal supervision
Skills and abilities:
- Graduate from a recognized technical institution with a diploma in Electronics
- Ability to handle a soldering iron, read schematics, and use the oscilloscope/spectrum analyzer
- Physically able to climb, lift and bend while comfortable working at heights/ladders on sea going vessels
- Outstanding computer skills, especially with networking equipment and IT infrastructure
- Exceptional troubleshooting skills
- Strong customer focus demonstrating flexibility and initiative
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- 3 to 5 years related experience

Salary: $34.00 per hour
